WHAT IS DAI?

The Dutch Art Institute (DAI) is a postgraduate department of the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts and is linked to three Dutch art academies in the east of the country: the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design, the Zwolle Academy of Art and Design, and above all with the AKI Academy of Art and Design in Enschede. Starting September 2003, DAI offers two postgraduate courses under one roof: DAI private and DAI public.

DAI private & DAI public
With its two educational programmes, DAI targets promising young artists and designers. The programmes help them access different networks and, each in its own way, teach them to manoeuvre through the different domains, disciplines, scenes, trends, standards, traditions, and even cultures in an agile, self-confident, critical and independent way.

What distinguishes DAI private and DAI public from one another is the individual signature of the staff, the topics of the projects and the contacts that are established. They share a common space and facilities. Regular interaction between students of both departments will lead to a lively exchange of experiences. Students will meet at various stages during the programme in order to regularly discuss the freedom of choice that an artist can and wishes to maintain in relation to the public, his own self, language, culture, economics and politics. This discourse, which focuses on the paradox of the public and the private, will take place on an inspiring intercultural level thanks to the presence of students from all parts of the world. Together, DAI public and DAI private offer a stimulating environment for young artists who, after having completed their BA, wish to develop their artistic and intellectual capacities in order to broaden and deepen their newly started research within a more international context.

Each 2-year course ends with the awarding of a degree on a MFA-level. The official language in both courses is English.
